Disregard for Status Quo is Beautiful, When Done Right!
Have you ever been to a Consumer Electronics Show (CES)? If not, it’s a technology event where everything is up for disruption and nothing is taken for granted. From toothbrush, to mice that turn into presentation clickers or a note taker, to pens with three cameras that make digital copies of what you write, toasters, and more! The sky’s the limit when it comes to shaking up the status quo.
As we navigate through the AI revolution, many of us will start revisiting existing products, features, processes, etc. that haven’t changed in a long time. One cannot improve or innovate without questioning the status quo, but it is important to recognize that change is not easy for some. It must be done in a way that brings everyone along by getting them excited, helping them see the opportunity that you see in the change.
It's important to approach questioning the status quo in a way that is respectful and inclusive. Here are a few tips to help you do that:
Start by clearly communicating your intentions and the reasons why you believe change is needed. This will help others understand your perspective and give them context for the conversation.
Use data and evidence to support your arguments. This will help others to understand the benefits of the change and to feel more comfortable with it.
Encourage open discussion and active listening. Be open to hearing other perspectives and be willing to consider different points of view.
Involve stakeholders from all levels of the company, including those who may be affected by the change. This will help to ensure that everyone's voices are heard and that any potential concerns are addressed.
Focus on finding common ground and working together to find solutions. Change can be difficult, but by working together, it's possible to find a way to move forward that is beneficial for everyone.
Communicate the benefits of the change in a way that is relatable and will excite people to adapt the change.
Remember, change can be difficult, but it is also necessary for growth and progress. By approaching the conversation in a respectful and inclusive manner, you will be more likely to find support and to achieve the desired outcome.
